The Talmud is full of references to witchcraft and wizardry, whether it be necromancy, sorcery, telepathy or sleight of hand. Some of these things are relatively permissible, some are more-or-less forbidden, and others carry with them the penalty of death. To what extent did ancient Jews really believe in magic? And what does this mean for professional magicians today?
